Background editing
——The global forest problem is becoming more and more prominent: the forest area decreases and the forest degradation intensifies. There is a downward trend in the quantity (area) and quality (ecosystem diversity) of forest resources. Some consumers in Europe and the United States refuse to buy wood products without legal source certificates.
Founding editor
At the 1990 California conference in the United States, some representatives of consumers, timber trade organizations and environmental and human rights organizations believed that it was necessary to create an honest and credible system to identify well managed forests as an acceptable source of forest products. The meeting concluded that the system should include the definition of good forest management by global public opinion, independent audit of forest management and a global umbrella organization. The name of the FSC Forest Stewardship Council came into being.
In October 1993, 130 representatives from 26 countries established the FSC Council in Toronto, Canada, and elected the board of directors.

The first certified and labeled product - wooden shovel (sold in the UK). The first FSC working group (UK) was endorsed by the FSC board. FSC members approved standard 10 on plantation forests.
In January 2003, the FSC secretariat moved to the FSC International Center in Bonn, Germany, with 25 employees.
